Of such Collective Ownership it is usual to distinguish four forms: (i) Tenancy by Entireties, (ii) Co-parcenary, (iii) Joint Tenancy, and (iv) Tenancy in Common. In each case it will be seen that the writings of Littleton and Coke remain the foundation of our law. Examples of these four classes of co-owners, compared with examples of sole or corporate ownership, are rare and perhaps are becoming rarer, unless partnership is to be considered an example of either joint tenancy or tenancy in common. Since partners appear to differ materially from other co-owners, partnership is separately treated in Chapter VI.The rights and remedies of co-owners inter se are vague, although Chancery has modified the "barbarous and antiquated" doctrines of the common law. According to Littleton, where there are co-owners of a horse, an ox or a cow, "if the one takes the whole to himselfe out of the possession of the other, the other hath no other remedy but to take this from him who hath done to him the wrong... when he can see his time."
