In the former Edition the Live Weights Were directed to be taken in hundred weights, quarters, and pounds, and the Dead Weights of carcase were given in stones of eight pounds, and tenths of stones that method has, however, been found inconvenient first, because stones of eight pounds are only used in and near London and secondly, because the decimal fractions were not at all times understood by those for whose use the Work was principally designed.
