Since its first adoption in the preamble of the Irish Constitution and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights it has more and more proven to be a fundamental principle of law. The philosophers, lawyers and political scientists joint in this book discuss this assumption with respect to the legal form of dignity, its relation to values like freedom and autonomy, and analyze its implications for justice in difficult decisions. Because of the fundamental value of human dignity, comparative studies are intended to show its relevance in different legal orders and in international law. Von 2003 bis 2008 war er Fellow am Max-Weber-Kolleg in Erfurt. Er nahm verschiedenste Gastprofessuren in den USA wahr. Brugger wurde nach dem Studium von Rechtswissenschaft, Philosophie und Soziologie mit beiden rechtswissenschaftlichen Examina 1980 in Tubingen zum Dr. iur. promoviert und hat sich dort 1986 habilitiert. Bereits 1981 erwarb er einen LL.M. an der University of California, Berkeley. Stephan Kirste ist seit 2012 Universitatsprofessor an der Universitat Salzburg und Inhaber eines Lehrstuhls fur Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie in der dortigen Rechtswissenschaftlichen Fakultat. Vorige Stationen waren: 2008-2012: Dekan an der Fakultat fur Vergleichende Staats- und Rechtswissenschaften an der Deutschsprachigen Andrassy Gyula Universitat Budapest 2006-2012: apl. Prof. an der Juristischen Fakultat der Universitat Heidelberg 2004: Habilitation fur Offentliches Recht, Rechtsphilosophie, Verfassungsgeschichte der Neuzeit, Rechtssoziologie 1997-2004: Hochschulassistent 1990-1997: Wissenschaftlicher Mitarbeiter an der Juristischen Fakultat der Universitat Freiburg mit abschliessender Promotion Seit 2010 ist Stephan Kirste Vorsitzender der Deutschen Sektion der Internationalen Vereinigung fur Rechts- und Sozialphilosophie.
