Seminar paper from the year 2013 in the subject Didactics - English - Literature, Works, grade: 1,7, University of Malta (English Department), language: English, abstract: This term paper deals with Eric Carle's 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' as an example of a picture book. Moreover, it deals with the question 'What makes 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' suitable for a certain age group?' and shows that this picture book also has an educational purpose. The main subject of this paper is the analysis of the relation between words and images in picture books in general and in 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' as an example of this genre. At the end of this paper there is a conclusion which summarises the most important results of the analysis. **** Diese Hausarbeit beschäftigt sich mit Eric Carles 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar' (Die kleine Raupe Nimmersatt) als Beispiel für ein Picture Book (Bilderbuch). Außerdem geht es um die Frage, was dieses Buch für eine bestimmte Altersgruppe passend macht und inwiefern das Buch zur Bildung des Lesers beiträgt. Der Hauptgegenstand ist eine Analyse der Bild-Wort Beziehung in Bilderbüchern am Beispiel der kleinen Raupe Nimmersatt, wobei auch die Funktion von Text und Bild in dem Buch, sowie der Zusammenhang beider Komponenten herausgestellt wird. Das Fazit fasst die Ergebnisse der Analyse zusammen.Ich heiße Isabel Angela Mund und habe seit vielen Jahren eine Leidenschaft für Fremdsprachen. Ich spreche neben meiner Muttersprache Deutsch auch Englisch, Französisch, Spanisch und Italienisch. Ich habe von 2010 bis 2016 an der Universität Rostock und der University of Malta diese Sprachen auf Gymnasiallehramt studiert und arbeite nun als Gymnasiallehrerin, um meine Freude an Fremdsprachen hoffentlich wenigstens an einige meiner Schüler weiterzugeben. Außerdem habe ich während des Studiums fünf Monate an der Ecole alsacienne in Paris Deutsch als Fremdsprache in den Klassen 6-12 unterrichtet und einen Italienischkurs an der Università per Stranieri in Perugia absolviert. Neben den Sprachen habe ich in jedem Land die Kultur und viele nette, weltoffene und interessante Menschen kennen gelernt, sodass ich manchmal finde, dass ich durch die Auslandsaufenthalte mehr für mich und mein Leben gelernt habe als durch das doch sehr wissenschaftliche und fachlich anspruchsvolle Studium der Fremdsprachen. Deshalb möchte ich jedem empfehlen, zu reisen oder, wenn möglich, während des Studiums ins Ausland zu gehen, weil man sich dadurch wirklich sehr weiter entwickelt und viel über sich selbst sowie über sein eigenes Land lernt. Und wenn man noch dazu die Sprache spricht, sind die Menschen gleich viel offener und behandeln einen viel vertrauter.
