Zum Schumannjahr 2006: Das Ergebnis einer langen "Liebe" zu Robert Schumann, das sind die Legenden, die ein Arzt über dessen Krankheitsbiographie verfasst hat. Letztere umfasst sechs Jahre und fand ihr Ende mit dem Jahre 1856 - also vor 150 Jahren - als der große deutsche Komponist in der Heilanstalt in Endenich bei Bonn verstarb. Der Autor suchte in der nur noch in Teilen vorliegenden Hinterlassenschaft Schumanns nach den Krankheitssymptomen der Progressiven Paralyse - einer Spätform der nicht oder nicht ausreichend behandelten Syphilis, an der der Künstler litt - die er dann in episodenhafter Aneinanderreihung zu einem Gesamtbild der letzten sechs Lebensjahre zusammensetzte. Es handelt sich um die Zeit von 1850 1856, die Schumann am Rhein - in Düsseldorf und Endenich bei Bonn - verbrachte. Zur Information über die zeitnahe Diagnostik und Behandlung der Geisteskrankheiten, zu denen die Progressive Paralyse zählt, wurden Zitate aus einer medizinischen Quelle von 1842 eingeflochten.
