MP3 Audio CD. The Awakening is a narrative by Kate Chopin, first produced in 1899. Situated in New Orleans and on the Louisiana Gulf coast in the last years of the 19th century, the theme focuses on Edna Pontellier and her battle over her accelerating nonconformist insights on womanhood and maternity with the predominant communal behaviors of the millennial American South. It is among the first American narratives that concentrates on female concerns without deference. It is also largely observed as a feature opus of early women?s liberation, propagating a combined response from modern bibliophiles and reviewers. The story?s mixture of real historical, trenchant social annotation, and cognitive entanglement creates The Awakening a harbinger of American innovative written matter. It foreshadows the literary opuses of American authors including William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway and reflects the pieces of colleagues like Edith Wharton and Henry James. It can also be treated as the earliest Southern pieces in a praxis that would end up with the new classics of Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, Katherine Anne Porter, and Tennessee Williams. Kate Chopin, christened as Katherine O'Flaherty, was a United States fictionist of short tales and novels set in Louisiana. She is today contemplated by most academics to have been an exponent of American 20th century novelist of womanism of Southern or Catholic grounding, including Zelda Fitzgerald. Of French and Irish lineage, Katherine O' Flaherty was born in St. Louis, Missouri. She wedded and transferred with her spouse to New Orleans. They thenceforward settled in the province in Cloutierville, Louisiana. Kate made short tales for both younger and older people that were printed in national publications such as Atlantic Monthly, Vogue',' The Century Magazine, and The Youth's Companion. Her novels heightened discussion due to her topics and her style, they were remarked as indecent by a few reviewers., 0<

[SC: 51.03], [PU: Stone & Kimball, Chicago], AWAKENING FIRST EDITION,KATE CHOPIN EDITION, First edition of this landmark work. Octavo, original green cloth stamped in dark green and red. In very good condition. Housed in a custom half morocco clamshell box. First editions are rare, especially in this condition. Set in New Orleans and on the Louisiana Gulf coast at the end of the 19th century, the plot centers on Edna Pontellier and her struggle between her increasingly unorthodox views on femininity and motherhood with the prevailing social attitudes of the turn-of-the-century American South. It is one of the earliest American novels that focuses on women's issues without condescension. It is also widely seen as a landmark work of early feminism, generating a mixed reaction from contemporary readers and critics. The novel's blend of realistic narrative, incisive social commentary, and psychological complexity makes The Awakening a precursor of American modernist literature; it prefigures the works of American novelists such as William Faulkner and Ernest Hemingway and echoes the works of contemporaries such as Edith Wharton and Henry James. It can also be considered among the first Southern works in a tradition that would culminate with the modern works of Faulkner, Flannery O'Connor, Eudora Welty, Katherine Anne Porter, and Tennessee Williams.<
