"Kelly Flinn (whose surname was sometimes misspelled as Flynn; born December 23, 1970) is a former B-52 pilot in the United States Air Force (USAF). She was the first female pilot to serve in that capacity. She was discharged from the U. S. Air Force in 1997 after an adulterous affair with the husband of an enlisted subordinate, for military offenses including disobeying a direct order from her commanding officer to break off the affair, and for twice lying under oath to investigators about having done so. The scandal received widespread media attention at the time and was discussed in a U. S. Senate hearing on May 22, 1997. Kelly Flinn worked as a commercial pilot for Trans World Airlines after leaving the Air Force. " (from Wikipedia) ., Random House, 1997, 4, London, Allen & Unwin, 1965. First Edition. Hardcover. From dust jacket: From an inauspicious beginning in 1926, the Bayerische Flugzeugwerke and its successor the Messerschmitt Flugzeugwerke, designed no less than 43% of the total number of military aircraft built for Nazi Germany. The most successful early Messerschmitt aircraft were the M 18 airliner and the M 23 light plane. These wwere followed by the Bf 109, one of the worlds most famous aircraft, and the twin-engined Bf 100. On the more radical side, the company also built the Me 163 and Me 262, respectively the worlds first operational rocket and jet propelled fighters. This book tells the story of Messerschmitt from the Pilotus glider of 1921 to the newly established MBB GmbH, currently the largest German aircraft company. Apart from the aircraft, the book describes the use of them by Lufthansa, the Luftwaffe and other air forces. William Henry Stevenson (1 June 1924 - 26 November 2013) was a British-born Canadian author and journalist. His 1976 book A Man Called Intrepid was about William Stephenson (no relation) and was a best-seller. It was made into a 1979 mini-series starring David Niven. Stevenson followed it in 1983 with another book, Intrepid's Last Case. He published his autobiography in 2012. In 1976 Stevenson released the book, 90 Minutes at Entebbe. It was about Operation Entebbe, an operation where Israeli commandos landed at night at Entebbe Airport in Uganda and succeeded in rescuing the passengers of an airliner hi-jacked by Palestinian militants, while incurring very few casualties. Stevenson's "instant book" was written, edited, printed and available for sale within weeks of the event it described. Sir William Samuel Stephenson, CC, MC, DFC (23 January 1897 - 31 January 1989) was a Canadian soldier, airman, businessman, inventor, spymaster, and the senior representative of British Security Coordination (BSC) for the entire western hemisphere during World War II. He is best known by his wartime intelligence codename Intrepid. Many people consider him to be one of the real-life inspirations for James Bond. Ian Fleming himself once wrote, "James Bond is a highly romanticized version of a true spy. The real thing is ... William Stephenson." As head of the British Security Coordination, Stephenson handed over British scientific secrets to Franklin D. Roosevelt and relayed American secrets to Winston Churchill. In addition, Stephenson has been credited with changing American public opinion from an isolationist stance to a supportive tendency regarding America's entry into World War II., The Lyons Press, 2000, 3, Sewtec Inc.. TV TIE-IN: This book was the basis for the 1995 Made-for-Television film entitled Freefall: Flight 174, also known as Falling from the Sky: Flight 174. SYNOPSIS: On July 23, 1983, Captain Bob Pearson climbed into the cockpit of a twin-engine Boeing 767, one of the most sophisticated airliners in the world. Preparing to guide Air Canada Flight 143 from Montreal to Ottawa and then on to Edmonton, he checked his systems and entered into the computers the information he received from the ground crew. One of the maintenance men, in charge of fueling the craft, experienced a bit of difficulty with his math. The 767's computers utilized only metric calculations, and the maintenance man struggled to convert conventional measures into the unfamiliar numbers. He informed Pearson that the plane was fully fueled when, in fact, it was 26,000 pounds short. The stopover in Ottawa was brief. They had no plans for refueling and now there was no apparent need. Then, with no warning, 14,000 feet and westbound over Red Lake, Ontario, the portside engine failed. Seconds later, Pearson and Quintal, his copilot, realized that the starboard engine also had failed, terminating all electrical power. An eerie silence shrouded the plane as flight crew and passengers attempted to deny reality. They were now floating silently at 41,000 feet. The nose of the plane dipped precipitously; the gliding craft lost airspeed and altitude. They had a maximum of twenty-nine minutes to prepare for their certain death. Freefall is the story of Flight 143. A brilliant recreation in which we relive the terror of those twenty-nine minutes through the eyes of those who experienced it. You will never look at flying in exactly the same way again.
