Light toning, some mild foxing, but overall an excellent set. Folding map frontispiece of the operations on the Sutlej to volume II. First edition of this extremely uncommon and highly desirable account of service in India and Afghanistan with the 16th lancers. Three copies only on COPAC; OCLC adds just five more. Daniel Henry Mackinnon (1813-1884) served with the 16th lancers in the First Afghan War under Lord Keane, present at the siege and capture of Ghazni (Medal); also served throughout the Sutlej campaign of 1845-6, and was present at the affair of Buddiwal, where his charger was killed under him by a roundshot, and the battles of Aliwal and Sobraon (Medal and Clasp). This account divides more or less in half, the first volume being concerned with Afghanistan, the second with events in the Punjab.<
