English summary: Wevers's editions of the books of the Pentateuch for the Gottingen-Septuagint series appeared between 1974 (Genesis) and 1991 (Exodus). In this volume Schafer, a scholarly co-worker on the Gottingen-Septuagint Project, seeks to provide a help toward the more efficient use of those editions and a concrete introduction to the study of the Septuagint. After providing basic information about the Gottingen Septuagint and its editions of the books of the Pentateuch, he explains the layout of the text: the critical text, the list of witnesses, the first critical apparatus, and the second critical apparatus. Then he gives explanations of the following topics: generally used signs and abbreviations; recensions and groups of manuscripts; an alphabetical or numerical list of manuscripts, with an indication of the groups to which they belong; the "daughter" versions (Latin, Ethiopic, Arabic, etc.); the indirect tradition (patristic writings); the more recent Greek translations; printed editions; and the Hebrew tradition. The appendix (pp. 291-304) provides lists of Wevers's later textual alterations vis-a-vis his editions of the Pentateuch, notes in the apparatus clarified in this volume, and publications connected with the Gottingen Septuagint Project. Christian Schafer hat ein leicht verstandliches Standardwerk geschaffen. Er erleichtert damit den Zugang zur Pentateuch-Edition J.W. Wevers und der Ruth-Edition von U. Quast.
